SpaceQuest Test Flight

SpaceQuest Test Flight

Postby AstroFuzz » Wed Oct 26, 2011 9:17 pm

We are somewhat tentatively working toward a launch on Sunday November 6th at 10 AM Eastern in Carrollton, Georgia. The callsign for APRS tracking will be N4BWR-11.

It is a test flight because we are flying with a new Tracker2 from Argent Data Systems, and a new high-altitude GPS. We will also have a simplex repeater operating on 146.550.

800 gram helium balloon.

Yeah, Rome is a great place to be from..... :)

I looked at your website and is your capsule covered with tape? Isn't that kinda heavy?

No, it wasn't too bad. The tape really didn't add much weight and it was just on the edges. I think we were just over 3 pounds.

Update on our flight. We lost radio contact with the balloon about 70 minutes into the flight. The last we know is that it was at 63,498 feet about 5.4 miles southwest of Union City, Georgia. If anyone is in that area and wants to look for it, you can visit the SpaceQuest blog for a picture of it and a link to the map. Thanks!

That's why I'm a big fan of using the SPOT with the aprs transmitter.
