SUFO-1, KD0OYK-11, 8/20/11

SUFO-1, KD0OYK-11, 8/20/11

Postby HABrad » Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:08 pm

If all goes to plan I will be launching my first HAB this Saturday, 8/20, around 10am CST. I'm using custom electronics with some Trackuino code and mostly my code. Pressure, humidity, temp, 3-axis acceleration sensors on-board with full data logging of all GPS and sensor data. Only taking still pictures on this flight using an SD450.

Check out my blog in my signature if you want more info. I haven't updated it with pictures of the capsule or the whole thing assembled yet, but expect that after launch day.

Track me on APRS.fi if you want to see if I succeed or fail. Just look for KD0OYK-11. I'll update this post if the expected time of launch changes.

EDIT: Updated time to 10am CST

Shoot!....I'll be 100 miles off shore fishing. I'll look it up when I get home. Good luck!

Good luck, Brad!

What pressure sensor are you using, btw?

I'm using the Intersema MS5540C pressure sensor. Here's a datasheet. The range is 10 mbar to 1100 mbar, which covers the entire range you should see on a HAB flight.

If you fly small balloons or you get really unlucky. :)

If it's accurate at 10mbar it's doing better than most however!

Barometric rather than absolute? I just pulled the blurb, haven't looked at the datasheet yet. Thanks for the resource-linkage!

Are you telling me you've taken less than 10mbar (absolute) readings? From what I've read that's about what it is at 100,000 ft, but definitely not a full vacuum on a balloon flight.

100kft is no where near the end of balloon flights though.

We'll be disappointed at 118kft this flight. 125k is target.

I had just web-searched it and read it was barometric, still haven't read the datasheet on it yet.

Move to 10am CST due to a little rain.
